متن کاملDiameter dependence of the dielectric constant for the excitonic transition energy of single-wall carbon nanotubes.
The measured optical transition energies Eii of single-wall carbon nanotubes are compared with bright exciton energy calculations. The Eii differences between experiment and theory are minimized by considering a diameter-dependent dielectric constant kappa, which comprises the screening from the tube and from the environment. Different kappa dependencies are obtained for (E11(S), E22(S), E11(M)...
متن کاملThermal Conductivity of Single Wall Carbon Nanotubes: Diameter and Annealing Dependence
The thermal conductivity, K(T), of bulk single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWNT's) displays a linear temperature dependence at low T that has been attributed to ID quantization of phonons. To explore this issue further, we have measured the K(T) of samples with varying average tube diameters. We observe linear K(T) up to higher temperatures in samples with smaller diameters, in agreement with a quan...

متن کاملDefinitive Band Gaps for Single-Wall Carbon Nanotubes
We report ab initio quantum mechanical calculations of band structures of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) using the B3LYP flavor of density functional theory. In particular, we find excellent agreement with the small band gaps in “metallic” zigzag SWNTs observed by Lieber et al. [0.079 vs 0.080 eV for (9,0), 0.041 vs 0.042 eV for (12,0), and 0.036 eV vs 0.029 eV for (15,0)]. This contras...
